fun for mama, fun for boy

this afternoon d had something to do for work, but nate and i couldn’t decide what to do.  we thought about going to a museum, but it closed at 5 and once his nap was over, it was almost 3.  then we considered the indoor playground that he loves, especially because it was so humid and looked like it might rain.  he’s been there a lot lately, though, and i wanted a change of pace.  so we went to an overpriced toystore nearby that we sometimes use as a playground.  there’s a table with train tracks and trains, and it’s the perfect height.

it’s really fun to watch him play with toys in a more and more “sophisticated” way.  he used to chew the trains, then inspect, there’s been some banging.  now he actually puts them on the track and scoots them them along.  and he can get to everything easily, since he can cruise along to get what’s out of reach.

so then we went to the playground down the street, which was really fun.  nate got to try out a swing for the first time!

he loved it.  wow, i just noticed how dirty that swing was.  we went down the slide and played in the sand.  then i was walking with him, holding his hands from behind.  he seemed pretty steady, so i gradually let go, and he stood by himself!  other than momentary balancing acts, that’s the first time he’s done that, and he stood there for a while, probably a full minute the second time.  he was sort of freaked out, but he did it anyway, and liked the applause that followed.

i have to give a shout-out to my girl kate, whom i hit up for shoe suggestions.  nate has a kick-ass shoe collection, but style isn’t everything when they’re learning to walk, right?  but we couldn’t give up the cute style, so we got him these.  they just may be the reason he stood up today!  maybe.

then we went for ice cream, which is always a hit with both of us.
