another go-round

i’m on vacation, and it feels great.  we spent a few days visiting my family in rhode island, which included time at grandma’s and time with his cousins, aunts and uncles.  my step-sisters have lots of kids, and we had a cook-out where nate went in the pool, jumped on a trampoline, and took his first step!  it was wobbly and he cried through it, but we celebrated.  he’s taken a couple of steps every day since then, and today he actually seemed to enjoy it, he laughed hysterically.

now we’re in martha’s vineyard.  it’s our second year coming here at the end of august, with friends and their little girl.  the house we’re in this year is comfortable and beachy — two decks, 4 bedrooms, outdoor shower, 5 minute walk to the beach.  the days have been really hot and humid but the nights are cool and breezy, so i can’t complain.  today we went to the oldest carousel in the country, nate’s first carousel ride.  he sat on a little horse and had the goofiest smile on his face.  i caught the brass ring and so we went for another ride, this time on a bench on d’s lap.  i stood on the side waving, and he was delighted by that, too.  pictures to follow, at some point.
